Save the dates: September 15th-24th, 2022 to enjoy independent films and the filmmakers who make them in The 20th Oakland International Film Festival.
“Rediscover Oakland through film and connecting this “rediscovery” to the world,” is our theme and our mission of The 20th Oakland International Film Festival.
During The 20th Oakland International Film Festival, we will plant seeds within the Oakland community that Oakland has an array places to celebrate any type of event including Oakland filmmakers and filmmakers from around the world.
During our rediscovery, we have discovered Oakland has changed since the COVID pandemic. Special places, like Luka’s lounge, where three years ago, we hosted short films, is no longer open. Lungamare, at Jack London, where we hosted filmmaker discussions/interviews, is also no longer open for business.
Fortunately, our main screening venue, The Historical Grand Lake Theater is still open for business and will be our home for two nights of this years 20th Oakland International Film Festival. Additionally, Holy Names University is still open for business and will continue to be one of our main screening venues.
This year, we have partnered with Oaksterdam Universities Educational Institute to close out the festival with a special film that tells a big part of Oaksterdam’s story in Oaklanfd and the influence this story continues to have on the world.
While screening independent films are a huge part of a film festival, I enjoy the conversations before and after the screenings and the networking that occurs when a room is filled with filmmakers and an audience full of film connossuiers.
